'Im Sorry' Ryan Garcia Rejects World Fight Title Shot Offer
Ava Bailey Highlights
- Ryan Garcia criticizes Rolando Romero for being slow and indecisive in negotiating a potential fight, emphasizing his commitment to face Devin Haney.
- Romero hints at a potential fight against Garcia in March, but Garcia dismisses it and focuses on negotiations with Haney.
- Garcia and Haney have fought each other six times in the amateurs, with a tied record, and are now set for their seventh fight on the professional stage.
Following his impressive stoppage victory over Oscar Duarte in December, Ryan Garcia immediately set his sights on a potential showdown with 140-pound WBA champion Rolando Romero. Garcia, who rebounded from a loss to Gervonta Davis earlier in the year, expressed his desire for the bout during a post-fight interview in the ring. However, when 'Rolly' Romero showed disinterest in facing Garcia, the latter shifted his focus to the newly crowned WBC titlist, Devin Haney.
Negotiations for a mega fight between Haney and Garcia are now in progress, with both fighters confirming their intent to face each other in the coming year. Haney's recent sensational performance against Regis Prograis saw him secure the WBC light welterweight title in his debut fight in the division, setting the stage for an eagerly anticipated clash between two accomplished fighters in the near future.

Garcia Said Romero Had His Chance
Garcia emphasized his commitment to arranging a bout with Devin Haney, criticizing Rolando Romero for what he perceived as a lack of urgency and decisiveness in negotiating a potential fight.
“I’m sorry Rollies – you and your team work way too slowly and you were way too indecisive. I didn’t know if you wanted to box or vacation, he wrote in a tweet, continuing, “Devin Haney and I are in negotiations – respect that. I’m not entertaining anything,” said Garcia.
Haney replied, “See you soon, pal.”
During that same period, in what seemed like a last-ditch effort, Romero hinted at a potential fight against Garcia in March.
"I’ve spent enough time away from boxing. It’s time to make the biggest PPV event of 2024. Let’s give the fans what they want, they’ve been begging for this for years,” wrote Romero, continuing:
"Watch Ryan duck me after I’ve been partying for the last seven months. I don’t even need a training camp to spank that ass ... you're just allergic to punchers."

‘King Ry’ Reveals Their Amateur Rivalry
Haney and Garcia reportedly fought six times in the amateurs - Haney won three times and Garcia won three times. However, their BoxRec records state that they fought four times, and both hold two victories over each other.
Garcia shared a promotional photo for their likely fight and wrote the following. "This will actually be the 7th fight between us. It’s only right it’s on the professional stage 🙏 Thank you Lord Jesus. It’s time to RUMBLE."
Haney will be the likely favorite in the matchup. However, their amateur records suggest that it will be a competitive fight.
