10 Amazing Wrestlers WWE Wasted As Midcarders In The 2000s
Mia Walsh In the 2000s, WWE had several exceptional wrestlers such as John Cena, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, Batista, Trish Stratus, Lita, among others. They were most of the time in the main event picture, overshadowing other very talented wrestlers who were stuck in the mid-card.

There were also some amazing WWE wrestlers who had everything it took to be main eventers and even have a World Title run, but never got the opportunity. So, without further ado, let's take a look at 10 amazing wrestlers that WWE wasted as midcarders in the 2000s.
10 Umaga
Umaga was an authentic monster heel, he was imposing, terrifying, and, most importantly, he was pretty talented. Umaga could put on a great show in the ring, and he always played his part to perfection. He could have been a great World Champion, but Vince McMahon never pulled the trigger. Umaga proved that he had what it took to be in the World Title scene when he had a great feud with John Cena, but even after his solid performances he continued to be a midcarder for the rest of his WWE career.
9 Gail Kim
Gail Kim certainly was WWE Women's Champion, but her reign was early in her career and didn't even last a month. After that, she was misused, never got booked properly and spent a lot of time off television despite being one of the most talented women on the roster. Kim should have been as great in WWE as Trish Stratus and Lita, but for some reason that didn't happen. Instead, Kim went to TNA and became an icon in the promotion.
8 Shelton Benjamin
Shelton Benjamin is the first wrestler that comes to mind when we talk about wasted talent as midcarders in WWE in the 2000s. This guy was a true athlete, his in-ring skills were very impressive and, despite not being a good talker, he could connect with the fans.

So, Benjamin deserved a shot at the main event, but unfortunately, he never got that push that would take his career to the next level. Benjamin will go down in history as one of the most talented wrestlers to never win a WWE World Championship.
7 Paul Burchill
Paul Burchill is remembered for his terrible pirate gimmick, not to mention when he had a weird, controversial relationship with her sister, Katie Lea Burchill. It is a pity that he never had a worthwhile gimmick, because he was actually talented. Burchill had great in-ring skills, he was athletic and could perform some great moves. Paul was a safe worker, and he was charismatic enough but his talent was absolutely wasted.
6 Kane
Kane won his first WWE World Championship in 1998, but won his second World Title on the main roster in 2010. That's right, Kane didn't win a World Championship in the 2000s, and in that decade, we saw his prime as an in-ring performer.

Besides being one of the most iconic characters of all time, he was pretty good in the ring and the fans loved him. Despite that, WWE wasted him as a midcarder for the entire decade.
5 William Regal
William Regal was always a very talented in-ring performer, as his technique was great, and he had a great sense of in-ring psychology. In addition, he cut good promos and did good character work. Still, he was a midcarder during his entire WWE career, which lasted 13 years (as an active wrestler). It's hard to believe that a guy as talented as William Regal was wasted as a midcarder in the 2000s.
4 Paul London
Paul London was only 5'10" and 180 pounds, so in theory he was too small to be a main eventer. However, he was very talented, one of the best high-flyers of his generation, and he was also charismatic, so the fans enjoyed watching him. With better booking and proper storylines, he could have made it to the main event scene. And if a wrestler like Rey Mysterio was World Champion, Paul London could have also had a World Title run, but his talent was wasted.
3 Lance Storm
Lance Storm worked for WWE between 2001 and 2005, and he was never more than a mid-card wrestler. He was one of the most talented in-ring performers of that time, as his technique was amazing, and he always delivered good matches, but WWE didn't bring that talent to the main event picture. Although maybe it's understandable, because his character was pretty weak, basic, and even boring, but who knows if that had been corrected with a better gimmick and better booking.
2 Goldust
Goldust (also known as Dustin Rhodes) is perhaps one of the most underrated wrestlers of all time. He used to be very good in the ring, with a good arsenal of moves and a sense of in-ring psychology and storytelling well above average. Plus, he did good character work and cut great promos. However, WWE wasted this overflowing talent and Goldust was never a main eventer, let alone won a World Championship.
1 Christian
Christian formed one of the best tag teams in WWE history alongside Edge. But when they parted ways, Edge became a main eventer, while Christian was stuck in the mid-card. Christian was just as talented as Edge in every aspect of wrestling, but for some reason he didn't receive a push similar to his former partner. WWE wasted his talent, and that's precisely what brought Christian to TNA in 2005, and there he proved that he could be successful as a singles star.
