Over the years, numerous backstage stories about The Bella Twins have been told. They themselves have told many in interviews, on their podcast, and in their recently released memoir, Incomparable. Stories about them have also been told from third-party sources. While they continue to be huge stars in front of the camera, here are ten behind-the-scenes stories about The Bella Twins.
10 They Weren't Initially Accepted In The Locker Room
In The Bella Twins' memoir, they revealed that things weren't easy for them when they first joined WWE. They learned the "unspoken rules" of the company and weren't initially accepted in the locker room.
After Nikki and Brie first debuted, the other women would not let them change in the locker room, which left them changing in the arena bathroom. They were subject to this treatment for several weeks before a member of the WWE brass found out and put a stop to it.
9 They Blocked Other Women From Returning To The WWE
The Bella Twins have been known to have a lot of power and influence within WWE, and that hasn't always rubbed people the right way. Both Maryse and Maria Kanellis have alleged that The Bella Twins sabotaged their returns to the company.

They claim WWE offered them and Kelly Kelly deals to lift up a depleted Divas Division. But Nikki and Brie, who were just starting Total Divas, didn't want them to return and went out of there way to get the returns nixed.
8 Sunny Apologized To Nikki For Fat-Shaming Her
It's crazy to think that anyone would call Nikki Bella fat, but many years ago there was a section of the WWE fan base that did. One person who thought it was a good idea to make fun of her weight was Tammy "Sunny" Sytch.
After Nikki and Brie made it to the main roster, Sunny wrote a Facebook post about how there is no excuse for Nikki to be chubby in her early 20s. In their memoir, Nikki revealed that Sunny felt very bad about those comments and pulled her aside at the Hall of Fame Ceremony when she was inducted to apologize.
7 They Had Heat With AJ Lee
The Bella Twins have a long history with AJ Lee on screen, which featured Nikki winning the Divas Title from her and AJ's last match being against them. But, they didn't just clash in front of the cameras.
The Bella Twins were not happy with AJ's infamous pipe bombshell, and it even led to Brie confronting her backstage afterward. Nikki then fired back at her during a SmackDown taping but it was edited out of the show. It's easy to see why they didn't see eye to eye, but it looks to be behind them now, as Nikki even tried to get a match against AJ at Evolution 2018.
6 Nikki's Survivor Series 2014 Match Was Changed Last Minute
At Survivor Series 2014, Nikki defeated AJ Lee for the Divas Championship, after Brie kissed AJ, in a match that lasted all of 35 seconds. At a Comic-Con event, Nikki explained what happened just before they went out for the match.
Originally, Nikki and AJ were supposed to have a 15-minute match. But when they were standing in the gorilla position they were asked, "How can you all do this match in 30 seconds." That is when Brie brought up AJ's kiss of death to Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 28, so they decided on that. This story is just an indictment of the way the Divas were treated back then.
5 They Were Upset With The Portrayal Of Them During The Women's Revolution
The women's revolution was an exciting time in the WWE, with the women in the company finally getting the time and respect that they deserve. But, The Bella Twins weren't happy with how they and the other main roster Divas were portrayed during it.

4 Brie Was Bullied After Knocking Out Liv Morgan
On the September 24, 2018, episode of Monday Night Raw, Brie Bella accidentally kicked Liv Morgan in the head, knocking her out.
Brie was really upset about what happened and immediately apologized to Liv backstage. Liv accepted the apology but many online trolls took the opportunity to go after Brie. This sent her into what she called a "deep depression." Many other wrestlers stood up for her, but it took a while for the online hate to stop.
3 Nikki Was Upset At The Timing Of Ronda Rousey's Debut
At Royal Rumble 2018, Ronda Rousey made headlines when she made her WWE debut. It was an exciting and shocking moment that will live forever in WWE history, but Nikki wasn't pleased with the timing of it.
Also on that night was the first-ever women's Royal Rumble match, which was something that Nikki believed should have had all the spotlight. She sent out a series of tweets after the event saying that she felt Ronda's debut upstaged all the women who put on the momentous match.

The Bella's were set to return on the SmackDown after WrestleMania and start to feud with The IIconics over the titles. They were in New York, had their gear, and were ready. But at the last minute, the doctor's told Nikki she couldn't. Which leads us too...
1 Why They Retired
Over the course of their careers, The Bella Twins set up a great legacy for themselves and were even announced as Hall Of Fame inductees in 2020. Which made it surprising they retired at a rather young age, especially with where the Women's Division is currently at. But, they both have very valid reasons for doing so.
Brie retired to focus on motherhood, and Nikki was forced to retire due to injury when doctors found a cyst on her brain. They are both evidently in great spots in their life now, having started many ventures since leaving the company, and are both currently pregnant.
