10 Defiance (2013-2015)

Set in the near future, this series focuses on the state of Earth focusing on the decades following the arrival of different alien species.

While this series only ran for a few years, the critics and fans seemed to appreciate the plot and characters. It may not be one of the all-time best sci-fi shows, but it has a dedicated fanbase behind it. Reddit user j-farr said, "Defiance has remained one of my all-time favorite sci-fi shows. 9 The Expanse (2015-2022)

Set in the far future in which people now also colonize Mars, rising tensions between Earth and the militarized Mars set the scene for impending war.

This is also a great option for Loki fans that like some mind-bending twists that take a deeper look into human psychology.

7 The Rain (2018-2020)

Set in Scandinavia, this story follows two siblings as they struggle to survive following the apocalypse caused by a deadly virus spread through the rain.

This series didn't receive the best reviews and was canceled quite early on. however, there are still some fans that enjoyed the plot and concept. Those that enjoy The Walking Dead thought this series was an interesting take on a viral apocalypse. Reddit user FalconBurcham said, "The first 20 minutes of The Rain was so terrifying I haven’t been back. [..] it looks like a great show, just very intense maybe." Sci-fi fans with an interest in horror should give this series a watch.

6 Raised By Wolves (2020-)

In this new series, a couple of androids are charged with raising children in a mysterious world. As war due to religious differences threatens society, the androids struggle with control.

Fans of the sci-fi series Foundation will enjoy Raised By Wolves and its unique take on alternate worlds. While this series is still new with only a season so far, Reddit fan nizzernammer said, "Raised By Wolves is worth a watch and has been renewed." Critics have praised this new sci-fi for its eye-catching visuals and the intellectual property behind the plot.

5 Dark (2017-2020)

Set in 1986, the show is a time twister that focuses on a small German town in which two children go missing and dark secrets are revealed.

4 Counterpart (2017-2019)

Set in Berlin, this story follows a United Nations agent who unexpectedly discovers that people can co-exist in different realities.

This show got a shocking 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, critics finding almost no fault in this action-packed, creative series. Reddit user BootRock enthusiastically suggested this series, with user KlockWorkKozmoz adding, "I just watched Counterpart! It was surprisingly good!" Sci-fi fans that appreciate suspense and a complex concept will devour all of the episodes of Counterpart.

3 Sweet Tooth (2021-)

In this adorable and intense sci-fi, a young boy who is a half-human and half-deer struggle to survive with other hybrids in a post-apocalyptic world.

Fans are looking forward to the second season of Sweet Tooth set to be released in 2022, eager to see what will come next in this unique and intriguing story. There is little negative critique of this series, critics and audiences appreciating the fairytale-like storyline and lovable characters.
