10 Major WWE Stars You Didn't Realize Were Relegated To A WrestleMania Pre-Show
Ava Bailey WWE has made it clear that WrestleMania is the biggest night of the year that wrestlers should aim to have great moments on. The iconic moments like Brock Lesnar ending The Undertaker’s streak, Steve Austin winning the WWE Championship for the first time or Becky Lynch winning a historic main event became part of their career highlights.

Unfortunately, not every wrestler will have a path to such success when entering WrestleMania season. WWE would even snub some relevant names and even future Hall of Famers by putting them on the pre-show. Most of the pre-shows didn’t even make TV before the past decade. WWE shocked fans by booking these top names on the pre-show instead of WrestleMania.
10 Sheamus (WrestleMania 27)
WWE did not choose to air the PPV pre-show for WrestleMania 27 when moving an advertised match to the pre-show. Sheamus and Daniel Bryan had a solid feud going for the United States Championship with weeks of build on Raw before the event.

Both wrestlers were disappointed when WWE moved their match to the pre-show and had it turn into a battle royal when everyone else interfered. Sheamus was the bigger name at the time coming off multiple WWE Championship reigns when getting moved to the pre-show and losing a battle royal to The Great Khali.
9 X-Pac (WrestleMania 17)
The underrated career of X-Pac saw him having a huge role in WWE during the Attitude Era. Both WrestleMania 15 and WrestleMania 16 featured X-Pac working with major names like Shane McMahon, Rikishi and Kane on the main cards.
However, WWE stopped valuing him as much heading into the stacked WrestleMania 17 card. X-Pac was on the Sunday Night Heat pre-show teaming with Justin Credible to defeat Grand Master Sexay and Steve Blackman. It is hard to argue against WWE here given how perfect that show ended up being remembered.
8 The Usos (WrestleMania 32)
WWE used the Usos history of getting snubbed from the main card as part of their history. The first five matches for Jimmy and Jey Uso on WrestleMania all came on the pre-show. WWE typically placed a tag title match there when they treated the belts as secondary titles to the singles championships.
WrestleMania 32 was the biggest snub when the Usos had stronger star power and worked closely with top babyface Roman Reigns. A heated feud with the Dudley Boyz saw their tables match bumped to the pre-show as another relegation before the Usos finally had a main show match at WrestleMania 34.
7 The Miz (WrestleMania 29)
The Miz had a drastic fall in importance from 2011 when he was WWE Champion to 2013. WWE turned Miz babyface around this time and placed Ric Flair with him while passing on the figure four leglock submission.
WrestleMania 29 featured Miz and Wade Barrett having a pre-show match for the Intercontinental Championship. Slight rain falling in the outdoor stadium distracted to take away even more from the match. Miz deserves some credit for outlasting a tough spot that has doomed other main eventers turned mid-carders.
6 Kane (WrestleMania 19)
WWE had a lot of star power missing the loaded card at WrestleMania 29 when booking a tag title match on the pre-show. Kane and Rob Van Dam were two of the most beloved babyfaces when defending the tag titles against Lance Storm and Chief Morley.
The track record of Kane saw him having noteworthy matches almost every year on the grandest tag before this. WWE had to make a judgement call and decided that the World Tag Team Championship would be the match moved to the pre-show on Sunday Night Heat.
5 The Dudley Boyz (WrestleMania 19)
Another aspect of the WrestleMania 19 pre-show match of Lance Storm and Chief Morley vs Kane and Rob Van dam featured the Dudley Boyz. WWE had their most successful tag team actually outside of the ring during this match.

There was an odd storyline with Morley using his power to threaten the Dudley Boyz jobs. RVD and Kane had the match won until Bubba dropped an elbow on Van Dam to cost them the titles. The Dudley Boyz did not fully turn heel and eventually fought against Morley and Storm afterwards.
4 Mr. Perfect (WrestleMania 18)
WWE rehired Mr. Perfect in 2002 to add some depth as a respected legend. Fans typically reacted with massive ovations for weeks after returning in the 2002 Royal Rumble match. However, WWE viewed him as a veteran presence rather than someone getting pushed to the front.
Perfect had his noteworthy matches on Raw, but he moved to the WrestleMania 18 pre-show. The babyface team of Rikishi, Scotty 2 Hotty and Albert defeated Perfect, Lance Storm and Test in a house show level match.
3 Ric Flair (WrestleMania 23)
Ric Flair’s 2000s run with WWE showed him as a legend often involved in storylines. The time spent in Evolution rebuilt Flair’s confidence, and he even had an underrated babyface push afterwards during the rest of his in-ring stint.
WrestleMania 23 saw Flair not on the main show when teaming with Carlito in a non-televised pre-show match against Gregory Helms and Chavo Guerrero. Flair and Carlito had an odd couple tag team act going at the time to start the night off with a win for the live crowd.
2 Dean Ambrose (WrestleMania 33)
The WWE Network era made the WrestleMania pre-shows longer with more matches taking place. Even though fans still got to see these matches on the pre-show broadcast, the wrestlers still typically feel flighted when missing the main card.
Dean Ambrose was just a few months off his WWE Championship reign when becoming United States Champion and feuding with Baron Corbin. WWE advertised Ambrose vs Corbin as part of the main card and the Smackdown Women’s Championship match as a pre-show bout. Online fan reaction caused management to rotate those two matches with Ambrose paying most.
1 Booker T (WrestleMania 21)
One of the most overlooked instances of WWE snubbing a top superstar from the main card saw Booker T missing WrestleMania 21. The pre-show saw everyone not booked that night competing in a battle royal that was won by Booker as the biggest name.
Fans felt Booker could have been a great Smackdown addition to Raw’s Money in the Bank ladder match, but WWE likely viewed that as too sloppy of a booking move. Booker couldn’t find a spot on the Smackdown side of WM season and was placed on the pre-show.
