10 Times WWE Used A Weird/Inappropriate Song For A WrestleMania Or PPV Theme
David Craig The musical theme behind a WWE event is one of the initial backdrops of the show's identity. While some choices for PPV/PLE themes were great representations of the matches that were to come, other theme choices were quite weird and/or inappropriate.

The artists, songs, and what the lyrics represent are not weird or inappropriate and there is no negative intention intended. It is when these songs are used in conjunction with a wrestling event and their stories do they become very out of place and make you wonder why WWE did not use a more thorough process.
10 WrestleMania 24
The 24th edition of WrestleMania in 2008 had a trio of theme songs. The primary theme was "Light It Up" by Rev Theory. Though it was not used during the event, Fuel's "Leave The Memories Alone" would be used afterwards for the post-match highlights of Ric Flair vs Shawn Michaels.
The secondary theme for WrestleMania 24 was "Snow (Hey Oh)" by Red Hot Chili Peppers. The song is about the band's lead singer Anthony Kiedis and his addiction to drugs, getting clean, and starting fresh.
9 SummerSlam 2015
It makes sense to chose a song that has a theme similar to that of the event. For example, for SummerSlam which takes place in the the middle of the summer season, a song about summer may be chosen. WWE did this several times for their biggest party of the summer.
In 2015 WWE had a house-made song for a theme but also used Demi Lovato's "Cool For The Summer" which is a song about bi-curiousness in women, which does make much sense to have had playing over the graphic for Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker.
8 SummerSlam 2004
WWE occasionally will also cater to home-town musicians to use their music for a theme song. At WrestleMania 28 which took place in Miami, Florida, WWE used Flo Rida's "Good Feeling" and also had him do a performance. SummerSlam 2004 took place in Toronto, Canada.

For the event, WWE chose to use a theme by Toronto band Rush and they went with their cover of "Summertime Blues." Rush was a fan-favorite for the Toronto crowd for sure, but the song is about being depressed during the summer months. The song literally said, "There ain't no cure for the summertime blues." Ironically the event was seen as a flop.
7 WrestleMania 25
WWE really made a eyebrow-raising, certainly not trail-blazing, decision for the themes of WrestleMania 25. The marketing for the event did not go over well as WWE proclaimed it to be the 25th anniversary of the event but mathematically, it was technically the 24th anniversary. Nevertheless, WWE went with AC/DC's "Shoot To Thrill" which was almost 30 years old in 2009 but WWE also had Kid Rock's "So Hott" as a theme.
The latter is about adult affairs and is quite vulgar with lyrics like, "You got a body like the devil and you smell like sex." Why WWE went ahead with this song is baffling as WrestleMania 25 was the first Wrestlemania of the PG Era. Kid Rock also performed the theme live at the event which has been edited out of Network replays.
6 Survivor Series 2004
Pains and struggles are highlighted in stroylines for both faces and heels. Those issues faced are not always relatable to the stars in other industries such as music and recording arts. Survivor Series 2004 featured the theme "Ugly" by The Exies.

In "Ugly" The Exies singer Scott Stevens sings about unhappiness and feeling lost from fame and fortune along with substance abuse. The contains lines as "Money it's no cure, a sickness so pure," and "You know we're far from sober."
5 Judgment Day 2006
WWE has re-used theme songs several times for different reasons. Kurt Angle's theme for example was used by The Patriot years before Angle debuted in WWE. Vince McMahon's theme and the theme for the 1999 Royal Rumble are one and the same.
For Judgement Day 2006 used the Killswitch Engage song "This Fire Burns." The song was not inappropriate but is weird in hindsight as it was in the middle of a game of hot potato. 2 months before the event Randy Orton used the theme as a one-off on SmackDown and not too long after the event, the theme would be given to CM Punk who used it for 5 years.
4 Armageddon 2008
The definition of the term "armageddon" is the final battle between good and evil which is a fitting name for an event with major feud blowoffs, which have happened at the Armageddon event. WWE went political one year with the event's theme.
In 2008 Guns N' Roses provided the theme with their song "Chinese Democracy." The song was inspired from the movie Kundun which about Tibet's 14th Damai Lama escaping from the Chinese government. Sure, the song can be seen as breaking free of oppression but the real events it was based on have no linkage at all to sports entertainment.
3 No Way Out 2004
A cross-promotional tactic was attempted for a WWE music release in 2004. In January, WWE released their CD Originals which was an album of original songs sung by WWE superstars. One of the tracks was Rey Mysterio's "Crossing Borders". WWE used "Crossing Borders" for the theme of No Way Out the month after the CD's release.
The song does tell the story of a foreign underdog overcoming adversity but the song was about Mysterio's life; No Way Out 2004 was themed around Eddie Guerrero, not Rey. Mysterio is also from San Diego which is where the event took place but the song would have been more appropriately used in a story involving Rey and not a roster-based event.
2 Survivor Series 2002
Survivor Series 2002 is fondly remembered for being the battleground of the very first Elimination Chamber match. The event was unique as there was not a single traditional Survivor Series Elimination match.
For the monumental event, WWE went with Saliva and their song "Always" for the theme. WWE had a good relationship with Saliva at the time but "Always" is based on domestic abuse and was influenced from events encountered by the sister of lead singer Josey Scott's girlfriend.
1 WrestleMania 19
WrestleMania 19 is not only seen as one of WWE's greatest events, but one of the best events in the entire history of the professional wrestling industry. Many legendary matches took place that left a plethora of memories that still last almost 2 decades later. The event had a production value that is comically looked back upon and that is the theme song as WWE went with Limp Bizkit's "Crack Addict" that the band would even perform live at the show.
The song gave off the wrong impression for its meaning with many people thinking it was about the effects of being on illegal drugs and the adrenaline, anger, and aggression that follows. Lead singer Fred Durst would say the song is about fighting, with one line clearing up the confusion, "I'm addicted to cracking skulls when punks start static." The song had to be heavily censored for usage as it contained many swears. WWE even ran a feature for the song on their program Confidential.
