10 WWE Storylines That Had To Be Made Just To Make Vince McMahon Laugh
John Castro Vince McMahon’s mind is one of the most bewildering places on planet Earth. The WWE Chairman has used the company as his own personal playground for numerous decades, booking some of the most mind-boggling matches, moments, and storylines in the history of professional wrestling.

At times, it is clear to see that some storylines were written and put in place for the sole purpose of McMahon’s enjoyment and to make himself laugh, rather than being for the benefit of the overall product or the several millions of fans watching around the globe. In fact, there are almost too many examples of this to count.
10 What’s In The Egg?
The lead-up to Survivor Series 1990 saw a giant egg on the stage, with the hatching of the egg teased. Whilst the whole concept was a little, fans were looking forward to seeing what would take place, with it being a rather unique and weird storyline.
After all the build-up and anticipation, the pay-off must’ve been solely to give Vince McMahon a laugh at the expense of the crowd, as a giant turkey called the Gobbledy Gooker emerged from the egg as the “surprise”. It was ridiculous.
9 Perry Saturn & Moppy
Perry Saturn having a real mop with a face on it as a manager is all you need to know to believe that this was a gimmick to make Vince McMahon laugh.
Saturn procured some head injuries which led to him believing that a mop was actually Terri Runnels - his actual manager. He would bring the mop to the ring with him, replacing his manager. It was silly, goofy, and surely just in place to give McMahon a chuckle.
8 The McMahons Vs. Shawn Michaels & God
Not only did Vince McMahon feud with God, but in this storyline, he even went to a church and acted as though he owned the place in an absurd segment. Not only that but at the 2006 Backlash PPV, he would even score an official victory over “God” in a tag team match where he and Shane teamed up against Shawn Michaels and “God”.
One can only imagine McMahon in the back maniacally laughing at the fact that he booked himself to defeat God in a professional wrestling match.
7 Mae Young & Mark Henry
The relationship between Mae Young and Mark Henry was seemingly a storyline meant to embarrass Mark Henry to the point where he would want to walk out of his WWE contract due to WWE getting cold feet about his ten-year deal.

Instead, Henry in his “Sexual Chocolate” gimmick went all into it, even with his on-screen sex addiction leading him to a relationship with Mae Young. The pensioner Young would even get pregnant and then give birth to a hand in one of the most unhinged segments in Raw’s history.
6 Val Venis Vs. Kaientai
Val Venis was on the receiving end of a beatdown from his rivals in the Kaientai faction, and it ended up with him taking a sword to the private parts in one of the most ridiculous cliffhangers of all time on Monday Night Raw.
A man’s genitals being chopped off is a clear example of a feud and moment that served only to entertain McMahon. There is no way to justify any other reason for something like this to take place on a professional wrestling show.
5 Hornswoggle Is Vince McMahon’s Son
Initially, the idea was for Mr. Kennedy to emerge as Vince McMahon’s storyline son in an angle that would have likely been more serious than it ended up being. When plans changed, it was clear that McMahon dropped the seriousness and went for something jokey, which is why Hornswoggle was revealed to be his son on an episode of Monday Night Raw.
The whole thing was ridiculous and uncomfortable for the most part, but it is easy to imagine McMahon finding the whole thing wholly enjoyable.
4 Eugene Is Eric Bischoff’s Nephew
The idea for someone with a mental disability to debut and be Eric Bischoff’s nephew would have been something Vince McMahon found hilarious and humiliating for his former WCW rival.
It was in bad taste in hindsight, though Eugene did put his all into the gimmick and did become popular and endear himself to fans. Either way though, the whole gimmick was initially supposed to just be a big joke and something to make McMahon laugh.
3 Goldust Vs. The Undertaker
The stark contrast between the characters and gimmicks of Goldust and The Undertaker is exactly why Vince McMahon put the pair together. Seeing Goldust show no fear and perform lewd acts towards The Deadman would have no doubt given the chairman a good laugh, especially when considering how dedicated Undertaker was to his gimmick.
The pair feuded over the Intercontinental Championship in 1996. Whilst the feud did have different elements, and it did cross into something more intense at times, the moments in which Goldust crawled over Undertaker and other similar moments felt like a big rib.
2 Santina Marella
At WrestleMania 25, WWE hosted a battle royal to determine the first ever “Miss. WrestleMania”. Despite returning names and the entire roster competing, it was Santino Marella in drag who won the match.

Seeing Santino pretend to be his twin sister, dressing up, and putting on a voice was something that had to be written only to entertain McMahon. It was a slap in the face to the women’s division, but it is clear McMahon didn’t care about that.
1 The Spirit Squad Vs. D-Generation X
Another storyline that directly involved Vince McMahon was when The Spirit Squad was used as his lackeys against DX. McMahon would have found the idea of male cheerleaders hilarious, and they were used as the butt of all jokes.
This is one of the clearest and most obvious examples of something done to make McMahon laugh, that’s for certain. The group was never taken seriously and used as glorified jobbers and punching bags for the likes of Triple H and Shawn Michaels.
