5 Best Tag Team Partners Of Kofi Kingston's Career (& 5 Worst)
Olivia Owen A 14-time Tag Team Champion and a former WWE Champion, Kofi Kingston debuted on WWE’s main roster in 2007, hitting incredible heights of popularity in the mid to late 2010s as part of the three-man group New Day. In the years leading up to that, however, Kingston had a variety of tag team partners, usually other singles wrestlers he was randomly thrown together with.

However, not every tag team Kofi formed worked out. Sometimes he and his partner captured titles, while others were far less unsuccessful. Let’s take a look at some of Kofi Kingston’s best tag team partners, as well as some of his worst.
10 Best Partner: Evan Bourne
In 2011, Kofi Kingston was already a three-time Intercontinental Champion when he was randomly thrown together with another babyface high flyer, Evan Bourne — otherwise known as Matt Sydal. Named Air Boom, the duo of Kingston and Borne ended up capturing the WWE Tag Team Championship in August of 2011 when they defeated David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty. Their 146-day run would come to an end in early 2012 when they lost the belts to Primo and Epico at a house show.
9 Worst Partner: The Miz
Late 2012 saw one of WWE’s most enduring heels, The Miz, turn babyface in what was ultimately a disappointing run. But being a babyface in the early 2010s raises the possibility of teaming with Kofi Kingston, and The Miz did exactly that as the two wrestled on several occasions across 2012 and through 2013. Unfortunately, Miz and Kofi proved unsuccessful in the ring together and lost all their tag team matches in 2013 against opponents like the Wyatt Family, the Real Americans, and even Rybaxel.
8 Best Partner: R-Truth
While the Miz and Kofi Kingston were an unsuccessful tag team, Miz’s former partner R-Truth fared a lot better alongside Kofi. Together, they were able to dethrone Primo and Epico for the belts on a late April 2012 episode of Raw and scored successful title defenses against the Prime Time Players and the team of Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger.

Their 139-day reign would come to an end at the Night of Champions pay-per-view in 2012 when they were defeated by Daniel Bryan and Kane, after which Kofi Kingston and R-Truth went their separate ways.
7 Worst Partner: Harry Smith
Even die-hard WWE fans might be scratching their heads trying to remember when Harry Smith — a.k.a. Davey Boy Smith Jr. — and Kofi Kingston had a tag team. It was actually in WWE’s old developmental territory, Ohio Valley Wrestling, the two were paired together as the Commonwealth Connection, on the basis that Kofi was a pretend Jamaican and Harry Smith is the Canadian-born son of the British Bulldog. Kingston and Smith only wrestled a handful of matches together, and by Kofi’s own account the partnership failed to bear any fruit.
6 Best Partner: CM Punk
More random than the developmental pairing of Kofi Kingston and Harry Smith was the pairing of Kofi Kingston and CM Punk, back when Punk was a generic babyface not getting many opportunities on Raw. Together, Kingston and Punk were able to dethrone Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase for the World Tag Team Championship on an October 2008 Raw, holding it for 47 days before dropping it to John Morrison and The Miz at a house show on their first defense. It’s not Kingston’s best run by any stretch, but it certainly counts as a successful partnership since it resulted in championship gold.
5 Worst Partner: Kevin Owens
By 2019, Kofi Kingston was in the New Day and showing no signs of ending the partnership with Big E and Xavier Woods. But in April of that year, Big E sustained an injury, with Kevin Owens becoming an honorary member of the group to join up with them. While their first outing together — a six-man tag against a trio of bad guys — proved victorious, it turned out Owen’s intentions weren’t exactly pure. It was only a week later that Owens staged an attack on his honorary teammates so he could feud for Kofi’s WWE Championship.
4 Best Partner: Xavier Woods
After failing to gain momentum in the ring in 2014, Xavier Woods approached both Kofi Kingston and Big E about turning their careers around, which resulted in the three teaming up as the New Day. While at New Day’s peak, Woods was often the trombone-playing cornerman for Kingston and Big E, but he was no slouch in the ring himself.

Together, Kofi and Woods scored some pretty big wins including capturing the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Titles as a duo on three separate occasions.
3 Worst Partner: Mickie James
In WWE, it’s not uncommon for a male and female babyface pair to take on corresponding heels in a mixed tag team, and Kofi Kingston had several with multi-time Women’s Champion Mickie James. However, James and Kingston weren’t exactly the most successful mixed tag team in WWE history, losing all three times they teamed up on TV — including when it counted most. It was at SummerSlam 2008 when Kofi and Mickie put their respective Intercontinental and Women’s Championships on the line in a mixed tag match, losing them to Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix.
2 Best Partner: Big E
For many fans, the ideal New Day tag team configuration is Kofi Kingston and Big E. It totally makes sense, as the two have the most impressive size differential when put next to one another. On top of that their styles are distinct, as Kofi is the high flyer and Big E is the powerhouse. Together, they’ve had significant victories of their own as well, including battles with The Revival, the Usos, and the Bar.
1 Worst Partner: Rey Mysterio
While Evan Bourne proved to be a great partner for Kofi Kingston, another high-flying pure babyface, Rey Mysterio, did not. While it sounds like a match made in heaven, the actual various times they tagged together from 2008 to 2014 sadly say otherwise, as they were often unsuccessful in the ring. In 2009, they actually got a Tag Title shot at the Miz and John Morrison but failed to capture the belts. While they were on the winning team for the 2010 Bragging Rights elimination match, Kofi was eliminated pretty early in the bout.
