The Mountain may be a giant of a man, but the Game of Thrones star has befriended the littlest and unlikeliest of companions.

Weighing 190kg and towering 2.06 metres tall, it comes as a huge surprise that Hafthor "Thor" Bjornsson's pet of choice is a fluffy pomeranian named Asterix.

Bjornsson plays knight Ser Gregor Clegane aka The Mountain in the hit HBO series where he is known for his brutal and savage nature.

Despite his tough exterior the Icelander, who has racked up multiple titles including being crowned Europe's strongest man for the past two years, has recently shown off his softer side.

Often showcasing his extreme training sessions or mass consumption of food, the star has recently taken to uploading photos of his little "lion".

The pup has its very own Instagram account @asterix_astrikur that often refers to his "parents" and states he loves to "play, cuddle and take naps!"
