John Cena Lands Voice-Acting Role In New Doctor Dolittle Film
Sophia Edwards If it wasn't enough that John Cena's new film Blockers was hitting theatres everywhere this week or that he's working on the new Transformers prequel, it was just announced that he was the actor officially tagged to play video game star Duke Nukem. But, that's not the end of the good news as it pertains to Cena's budding acting career as the home runs keep coming. It was confirmed on Tuesday that Cena has landed yet another big part in a major upcoming film.
WWE.com announced that Cena will be starring alongside Robert Downey Jr. and an all-star cast in Universal Studios’ live-action/animation hybrid, “The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle.” The film will feature many recognizable names doing voiceover work for a number of animal characters and Cena will play the voice of a polar bear named Yoshi.
The star of the film, Robert Downey Jr., also confirmed Cena's involvement as he announced on his own Twitter feed that Cena will be a part of the forthcoming film, which also stars names like Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, Selena Gomez, Craig Robinson, Ralph Fiennes, Octavia Spencer and Tom Holland.
The film will also include live-action actors including Jim Broadbent, Antonio Banderas, and Michael Sheen.
Fans of Doctor Dolittle may recall earlier versions of the film being distributed in 1998 and 2001 and starring funny-man Eddie Murphy. Before Murphy took over, the concept was adapted from a 1967 musical that picked up a couple of Oscars. Originally, the films were adapted from Hugh Lofting's 1920s series of children's books.

The film will revolve around a doctor who chooses to treat animals because he has the strange ability to talk to them. The wildly popular children's concept is sure to be a winner for everyone involved and it's another well-played career move and acting opportunity for Cena who is working diligently to make himself a bankable actor in Hollywood these days. Children's animated films rarely tank and one that stars Downey Jr. and has the supporting cast this one does is sure to be a box office success.
“The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle” hits theaters in April 2019. Cena will next be seen at WrestleMania 34 as he squares off against The Undertaker... well maybe. The Undertaker has not confirmed his appearance and fans only know that Cena will be in New Orleans live April 8, 2018, for WrestleMania 34 as a fan, if nothing else.
