La Réunion and Madewell started small as collaborators: just two upcycled dresses by the former's Brooklyn-based designer, Sarah Nsikak, available in a highly limited batch last year. When the entire run sold out in 22 minutes, Nsikak and Madewell design senior vice president Joyce Lee knew they should partner again.

Today, BAZAAR.com has an exclusive preview of the second iteration of Madewell's most in-demand designer collaboration. While this collection expands from dresses-only to include a matching set, a top, and accessories, it keeps the same intimate feel that made La Réunion an insiders' destination for one-hundred percent upcycled clothing.

Each item stitches together deadstock Madewell fabrics handpicked by Nsikak—some longtime shoppers will recognize, others that have been waiting for their moment to emerge from the archives. The look is a calibrated, one-of-a-kind patchwork achieved through Nsikak's harmonious mixing of cast-off fabric remnants. The feeling, from the oversized set to the billowing maxi dress, is one of "versatility, ease, effortlessness," as Lee describes it.

Collaborating with a major brand, even for a second time, is a shift for Nsikak and her sustainable label. "I love designing, creating, and the process of storytelling. If I could do it without selling anything at all I probably would," she says. Partnering with a household name, she hopes, can expose more people to the eco-friendlier practice of upcycled design. Brand recognition is a secondary perk, but an appreciated one: "People really love Madewell, so it gave us validation [as a brand.]"

Nsikak assures us there's more of each piece than there was on the first go-round. But part of this collection's beauty is its limited availability—so set a timer just in case.
