Matt Cardona (formerly Zack Ryder in WWE) did admit during an interview that he would like to go back to WWE one day. He also noted that he's having a ton of fun with being his own boss and doing the work he's doing right now, that he wouldn't go back if he wasn't allowed to continue with all of the ventures he's currently got on the go.
Speaking with Chris van Vliet of Insight podcast/videocast, Ryder acknowledged that it is on his bucket list to go back there one day. He explained, "I'll put it out there. One goal that I’ve been saying for a long time is to win that WWE Championship. That's not a lie. I'd be lying to you right now." He added that he had no intention of going back when he was first released and he was so busy in 2020, 2021, and 2022, that he didn't have a desire to. At the same time, he noted, "But I would be lying if I said I never want to wrestle at Madison Square Garden again, or I never want to have a WrestleMania match. Of course I do, because WWE is number one." He finished with, "So not saying, you know there's this, this plan to go back as soon as possible, but before I hang up the boots, I'd love to go back at least one time, for sure."
When it was mentioned that going back to WWE might mean stopping all of the current ventures he's got going on, Cardona said, "Then I wouldn't go back." He loves being his own boss and being as busy as he is. He noted he's stretched so thin he has to schedule when to "take a sh--" but he wouldn't have it any other way.

Is He Having Current Talks With WWE?
Cardona was then asked if he's talked to anyone from WWE about a return. He responded, "Listen, I appreciate you asking me this, but here's the truth. Like, if I were to go back, I wouldn't reveal it here, and if I wasn't going back, I wouldn't reveal it here because I want people talking. So the more they talk, you know, the more people are talking about Matt Cardona, the better for me. I'm the internet champion, then now, and forever. So let them talk."
It seems clear, if he does return, he wants it to be a surprise.
