Bravo’s new docuseries, Kandi & the Gang hit the small screen on March 6, 2022, and just as the title suggests, it saw Kandi Burruss and her “gang” including Melvin Jones trying their best to keep the restaurant running.

Yes! while you may think working hand to hand with a family member is much easier, this show has proven otherwise. It featured coworkers clashing, Burruss’ family members fighting with the waitstaff, and there were even a few hookups caught on camera.

Even Melvin was having a hard time after Todd had some concerns about the kitchen. Being dealt a difficult hand at the restaurant, Melvin was struggling to keep his job. A few even believed that he would have to say goodbye to the restaurant for the greater good of OLG.

Joining Melvinthis season were his co-stars — Patrick Dallas, Shawndreca Robinson, Dom’Unique Variety, Brian Redmond, Torin Mitchell, Brandon Black, Phillip Frempong, and Rashard Roles.

According to the show’s lead Kandi, Kandi & the Gang celebrates the intersectionality of its black and queer stars. Especially, she believes that it was the men in particular who made her restaurant shine.

And it’s true. They’ve got a lot of Black charming men on the show — some straight, some gay, and there “are masculine-gay and then some that are not as masculine,” Kandi explained.

All excited to see himself on a billboard in Times Square, Melvin took it to his IG on March 2, 2022, to write, “Grind will turn into your shine be patient‼️ mama I’m on a billboard in New York.”

Also, 2 days later, he shed a little light about his time on the show through an IG post captioned, “Stereotype of a black male misunderstood, but it’s still all good.”
