6 months have passed since the Freedom Fighters have finally defeated their arch-nemesis, Dr. Eggman, for good. The team is considering disbanding, but a girl named Cosmo crash lands on Mobius seeking help from the team. She explains that her species was wiped out by the male members of her species who call themselves the Meterax and are killing all life in the galaxy except for plants. They’re also after the Chaos Emeralds. Sonic & the Freedom Fighters decide to help Cosmo save the galaxy and find the Emeralds on their new ship, the Blue Typhoon, while the rest of their friends stay on Mobius to defend it.
