Shahid Kapoor's portrayal in the movie Kabir Singh won over the audience in 2019. In a recent interview, the actor revealed that he initially wanted to decline the offer, but it was his wife Mira Rajput who encouraged him to take up the role.   During a conversation with a leading entertainment portal, Shahid shared that he watched Arjun Reddy alongside Mira and was impressed by the movie, considering it to be really impressive.
He said, “This film has done everything that you are not supposed to do in a movie, and still I love this guy. He is doing everything a nice guy is not supposed to do. I thought this is so cool. My first answer was ‘no way I am doing this movie. The way he (Vijay) personifies this character, I don’t know if I will be able to because people have already seen me in many different roles”.

He further revealed, "Mira said ‘just shut up and do it. It’s the perfect film for you. People love to see you in love stories. People love to see you in messed up characters, this has both, just do it’. Her thinking was so simple and I had overcomplicated it for myself. I guess it was good that I did Kabir Singh."

Meanwhile, on the work front, Shahid will next be seen in Dinesh Vijan's untitled romantic comedy starring alongside Kriti Sanon. The film will release on February 9, 2024.
