Early Life & Career: - Smith competed for Australia in the 2008 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Malaysia. He scored 114 runs and got seven wickets in four matches throughout the competition. On January 25, 2008, Smith made his first-class debut for New South Wales against Western Australia at the SCG. He hit 33 runs in his sole innings as New South Wales easily trounced Western Australia. He was a member of the New South Wales side that won the Twenty20 Champions League in 2009. Smith scored 33 runs and got two wickets in the final against Trinidad & Tobago in Hyderabad.

Smith made his Twenty20 cricket debut for New South Wales against South Australia on January 1, 2008, in Adelaide, during the six-team KFC Big Bash competition.
