The Miz Claims WWE Canceled Several Planned WWE Championship Runs For Him
Mia Walsh The Miz had to wait a long 10 years before winning the WWE Championship for just the second time in his storied career.
Following Drew McIntyre's successful title defense against five other men at Sunday's Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, the WWE Champion was attacked by Bobby Lashley.
The Miz capitalized on the opportunity and cashed in his Money in the Bank contract en route to an easy victory over McIntyre. And with that, The Miz finally held the prestigious title again for the first time since May 1, 2011.
That night, he lost the championship to John Cena at Extreme Rules. Few could have predicted it at the time, but it would be a long time until The Miz held it again.
It's hard to believe that The Miz is only a two-time WWE Champion, given his lengthy tenure with the company along with the fact that he's been one of the WWE's top heels in the main event scene.
During an interview with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, The Miz revealed something interesting: He could have more than two WWE Championship reigns on his resume, but for several years, WWE kept scrapping plans to put the title back on him.
"I have been told many times – 2016, 2017, 2018 – there was a bunch of times where it’s like 'oh, we’re almost there' and then I get drafted or something else would happen," The Miz explained. "Certain things happen and the juggling is always happening. Sometimes you’re there and it’s like 'ah, it actually happened!' and other times it’s like (sighs)… I have work harder. I have to be better, do better, keep elevating myself to get to that moment. And here we sit; that moment took a little while but it’s kind of incredible."

WWE has kept The Miz in the mid-card and tag team divisions for the better part of the past five years. He had a brief feud with Universal Champion Bray Wyatt in late 2019 after turning babyface, where The Miz lost a non-title match at the TLC pay-per-view.
After Miz won the Money in the Bank contract off of Otis, it was only a matter of time until he regained the WWE Championship. Fast forward to February, and it's finally back in his hands.
Good Things Come To Those Who Wait
The Miz should have won his second WWE Championship much earlier. But he's been the ultimate team player in WWE; simply doing what they ask for. One can argue that he should have had more time in the main event scene between his two WWE Title reigns, but that's all for another day. The Miz is finally the WWE Champion again, and he hopefully won't have to wait another 10 years for his third reign.
