The Worst WWE PPV Main Event Every Year For The Past 10 Years
Matthew Perez Usually, WWE PPV main events are top-notch, because after all, we are talking about the biggest wrestling promotion of all time. That's precisely why expectations are high for every single main event, but unfortunately, they are not always met.

In the past 10 years, there have been memorable WWE PPV main events, such as Daniel Bryan versus John Cena at SummerSlam 2013, or AJ Styles versus Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules 2016. However, admittedly, there have been some lousy ones as well. With that said, let's take a look at the worst WWE PPV main event every year for the past 10 years.
10 2013: Randy Orton Vs. The Big Show (Survivor Series)
The worst WWE PPV main event of 2013 by far was Survivor Series, Randy Orton versus The Big Show for the WWE Heavyweight Title. It was a very boring bout, and the fans made it clear, as they were quiet and maybe some fell asleep.

The ending was stupid and only made things worse, as Big Show was distracted like a fool when Triple H's music played, allowing Orton to hit an RKO to win the match and retain the title. This match was not worthy of headlining one of the big four PPVs.
9 2014: Royal Rumble Match (Royal Rumble)
In 2014 there wasn't a really terrible WWE PPV main event. There were a couple of disappointing ones like the Fatal Four Way match at Battleground 2014, but that one was slightly better than the 2014 Royal Rumble match.
That's right, that was CM Punk's last WWE match. It was a Rumble with decent in-ring action at best, but the match structure and booking decisions were questionable. The crowd hated seeing Batista come back and win, booing him being a babyface, though at least it led to a memorable storyline with Daniel Bryan.
8 2015: Royal Rumble Match (Royal Rumble)
For the second year in a row, the Royal Rumble match was the worst WWE PPV main event, but this one was much worse than the previous one. The main problem with the match, once again, was the booking.
Kane and The Big Show are respected legends, but booking them into the final four was absurd. Daniel Bryan's early elimination made no sense, and no one wanted to see Rusev and Roman Reigns go one-on-one at the end.
7 2016: Goldberg Vs. Brock Lesnar (Survivor Series)
Certainly, this match was shocking, as Goldberg squashed Brock Lesnar. No one expected this because Lesnar is one of the most dominant wrestlers in wrestling history. It was a pleasant surprise, the fans enjoyed it.
However, from an objective standpoint, this 85-second match was the worst PPV main event of the year. Months later, at WrestleMania 33, it was clear that these two could put on a better show.
6 2017: Jinder Mahal Vs. Randy Orton (Battleground)
In the main event of Fastlane 2017, Goldberg squashed Kevin Owens to become Universal Champion. That was a lousy main event and a terrible moment, but the Battleground 2017 main event was even worse. WWE Champion Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton collided in a Punjabi Prison match.

This is one of the worst stipulations in WWE history, hands down, so Orton and Mahal could do little to nothing to make this match interesting. The in-ring action was mediocre, and the match lasted 27 eternal minutes. At least it was fun to see the return of The Great Khali, although it didn’t really make sense.
5 2018: D-Generation X Vs. The Brothers Of Destruction (Crown Jewel)
2018 was a bad year for WWE, the quality of the product got much worse and arguably hit rock bottom. There were some lackluster PPV main events, such as the Elimination Chamber match, the Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe bout at Backlash, Triple H vs. The Undertaker at Super ShowDown, and worst of all, D-Generation X Vs. The Brothers Of Destruction.
Even nostalgia couldn't save this match, because when four old men wrestle for almost half an hour, things can't go right. This was one of the worst PPV main events of all time.
4 2019: Goldberg Vs. The Undertaker (Super ShowDown)
2019 wasn't too much better than 2018 in terms of product quality and there were horrible PPV main events as well. The dishonor of being the worst PPV main event of the year might go to the Hell In A Cell match between Seth Rollins and The Fiend, as that match was an abomination to wrestling, but come to think of it, the match between Goldberg and The Undertaker at Super ShowDown is even worse.
It was a sloppy, painful match to watch. It's unfortunate how two legends of the industry embarrassed themselves.
3 2020: Goldberg Vs. The Fiend (Super ShowDown)
For the third straight year, the worst WWE PPV main event took place in Saudi Arabia. Once again, Goldberg was involved in a terrible match. This guy has been so bad and sloppy in the last few years that he can be considered as one of the worst wrestlers of the last decade.
But it's also the booking that made Goldberg’s matches lousy. Why did Goldberg have to squash The Fiend to become Universal Champion? Only Vince McMahon knows.
2 2021: Roman Reigns Vs. The Demon Finn Balor (Extreme Rules)
In 2021 there was not a bad WWE PPV main event, but if we have to choose, then Roman Reigns versus The Demon Finn Balor at Extreme Rules was definitely the worst. The match was good, and pretty entertaining, with some great spots, but the finish ruined it all.
The Demon was about to hit the Coup de Grâce, but for some unknown reason, the rope broke, allowing The Tribal Chief to hit a Spear for the win.
1 2022: Men's Royal Rumble Match (Royal Rumble)
The only really disappointing WWE PPV main event of 2022 was the Royal Rumble match. We had a terrible winner, as there was no need for Brock Lesnar to win, but that title unification idea complicated things and there really was no other option.
The in-ring action was mediocre, and there were several terrible booking decisions, like Shane McMahon eliminating Kevin Owens and being in the final four, or Madcap Moss eliminating AJ Styles. Also, there were no surprises or returns.
