August brought back big crowds back to the theatres. It was the month of sequels- with Gadar 2 leading the pack and minting major numbers at the box-office and OMG 2 being a close second. Dream Girl 2 was another sequel released this month. But in case you preferred hard-hitting films, Ghoomer and Akelli were here for your rescue. Here are the top trending Bollywood films of August 2023. 
Gadar 2

This August saw the release of the Gadar: Ek Prem Katha sequel, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel. The original cast returned for the movie. Tara Singh is reunited with Sakina and the well-known hand pump in the movie, which relied on nostalgia for its success. Gadar 2 was able to draw viewers to the films decades after the 2001 release of the first instalment.

OMG 2

Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi starred in the comedy-drama in OMG 2, the sequel to the 2012 film OMG. Following a devoted Lord Shiva devotee whose life is flipped upside down when his son gets expelled from school due to alleged misbehaviour, Amit Rai wrote and directed the movie. During the crisis, he experiences a spiritual intervention that inspires him to use the law to seek justice. The movie addresses outdated practices, religion, and sex education over the course of its running length.

Ghoomer

The most recent sports movie to come out is Ghoomer. Saiyami Kher, Abhishek Bachchan, and Angad Bedi are among the stars of the R. Balki-directed film. The protagonist of the narrative is a para-athlete, Anina, who was injured and lost an arm. She then goes on to achieve success in the world of cricket with the help of a coach who teaches her a novel bowling technique. The film was praised by a lot of popular cricketers on social media.

Dream Girl 2

OMG and Gadar are not the only films with a sequel in August 2023. Dream Girl 2 features Ayushmann Khurrana who reprises his role in the second instalment. He portrays Karam, a man from a tiny town who becomes Pooja to make ends meet. Ananya Panday plays the female lead this time around, replacing Nushhratt Bharuccha

Akelli

Akelli follows an Indian woman who relocates to Iraq for a job opportunity and finds herself in a country at war. She is forced to survive the brutality of the militant presence in the foreign country while trapped in a war zone. Nushratt Bharuccha plays the lead in the Pranay Meshram film. Bharuccha described the experience of filming Akelli as "emotionally draining" in a statement made to the media before the movie's premiere. Her portrayal of her character was much praised in the film.
