Were There Some Positives To Triple H's Reign Of Terror On WWE RAW?
Mia Smith There has been much spoken about the Triple H Reign of Terror from 2003 to 2005, and most of it is very negative.

It can be easy to tar all of Raw from 2003 to 2005 with the same brush. The defining feature of a lot of those Raws was Triple H opening the show with a tedious 20-minute promo bragging about how awesome he was.
“I am... The Game, ugh.
And the fact of the matter is, ugh, I am the absolute best at what I do, ugh.
I eat, breathe, and sleep sports entertainment, ugh.
I am better than each and every one of you, ugh, and I am damn sure going to prove it, ugh.
Because you see, in this business ugh…”
Going back to watch all of those Raws in order would be a cruel punishment, even for the most diehard of WWE fans.
However, because Triple H’s Reign of Terror has become so infamous, it can be easy to ignore just how many iconic moments, matches, and episodes happened in that timeframe. Even Triple H’s reign itself can be argued to have caused some macro changes to WWE which would propel the company into the future.
There Were Positives During The 'Reign Of Terror'![Evolution Cropped]()
To this day, Evolution is still named in any “Best Wrestling Faction” list, and it truly is. The rise of Batista is one of the greatest Wrestlemania main event feuds of all time and Batista’s growth from Triple H’s lackey to his equal was a triumph in booking, with a trilogy of all-time great matches. The Batista push was so successful, it gave WWE a new lease on life, with business picking up for the first time since the Attitude Era. That is purely down to the way Triple H and Batista were presented during this time.
Triple H’s reign, for all its faults, definitely did bring prestige to a title that desperately needed it. When the World Heavyweight Championship was introduced, it was just handed to Triple H. The World Heavyweight Title, despite being the best-looking belt ever created, still had the smell of WCW on it. The Rock was mocking that same title for being held by Vince Russo during the Invasion angle. Triple H’s reign put the title on the same level as the WWE Championship, which is something WWE had failed to do in other times when the company had two different World Championships.
Another thing in this era that has to be commended is the rebirth of Shawn Michaels. Before 2002, a Shawn Michaels return was viewed as impossible, with Michaels often talking about his back injury as a reason he could never return. But that is exactly what he would do and he would go on to have perhaps the best run of his career. His on/off feud with Triple H which ran for over two years was a highlight of this era, and Michaels was definitely giving Triple H his best matches in this run.

The Era Produced Its Share Of Iconic Moments
There were quite a few iconic Raw episodes in this era that may not ever get the respect they deserve as most of it is bundled in with Triple H’s Reign Of Terror.
Raw Homecoming was an all-time great episode of Raw. These types of “legends” shows were very few and far between back then, unlike nowadays, so it felt really special having all of the legends come back and celebrate with the current roster.
The 2004 Draft Lottery was the first draft of its kind. After the Wrestlemania XX tagline of “Where It All Begins… Again,” Vince McMahon announced it was time for “a new WWE” and announced a Draft Lottery for the following week. Triple H himself was the best part of the show when he was traded to Smackdown. Sure, they went back on that, but it still made for a great moment when Triple H revealed a Smackdown shirt during his entrance.
Above all, the Eddie Guerrero tribute episode of Raw after the wrestler's tragic death will go down as one of the best episodes of television WWE has ever done.
This era also had the entire run of Hollywood Rock, the Hulk Hogan/HBK feud, the Edge/Lita/Matt Hardy feud, Edge’s first taste of the main event, Legend Killer Randy Orton, and Lita vs Trish Stratus main eventing Raw, the first time women would ever accomplish that feat.
Obviously, there was a lot of bad stuff in this era, but there is still plenty to like from it that does not deserve to be lumped in with Triple H’s Reign Of Terror.
