Following the surprising events of season 1, The Boys season 2 picks up shortly after, with both The Boys and The Seven changing. Billy Butcher's focus almost completely turned towards finding his wife and her son. At the same time, The Boys continued trying to take down Vought by any means necessary - including leaking Compound V to the public. Back at Vought, the arrival of Stormfront shook up The Seven and Homelander. She joined the team and eventually struck up a romantic relationship with Homelander. Stormfront was then at the center of the deadly season 2 finale, which set up The Boys season 3 to go in some surprising directions.

Amazon is fully committed to expanding the Boys universe. In addition to the upcoming season 3, Amazon is also working on a college-focused spinoff series. But, what is the status of the next season and the continuation of Butcher and Hughie's story? The Boys Season 3 Renewal

Even before the release of season 2, Amazon confirmed that The Boys would return for season 3. The announcement was made during Comic-Con@Home in 2020. The new season will once again be eight episodes long. Showrunner Eric Kripke is back to lead the series creatively, while Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and more will continue to produce the series. The Boys season 3 began filming in early 2021.

Amazon has confirmed The Boys season 3 release date as well, with the show returning on June 3, 2022. The show's first three episodes will air on this date, and the remaining five episodes will release weekly afterward. This includes the anticipated Herogasm episode, debuting on June 24, and The Boys season 3 finale releasing on July 8. The summer 2022 release date for The Boys season 3 marks a return to season 1's release window. Although, the weekly release format didn't begin until season 2.

When The Boys season 3 releases in June 2022, it will bring back most of the show's main cast members, and introduce plenty of new characters. Karl Urban's Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid's Hughie Campbell, Erin Moriarty's Starlight, and Antony Starr's Homelander will continue to be at the forefront of the series. The Boys season 3 also returns The Boys' Frenchie (Tomer Capon), Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara), as well as The Seven's members Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), A-Train (Jessie Usher), The Deep (Chase Crawford), and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell). However, the clips give away a tantalizing enough overview of what to expect from the upcoming installment. Homelander will be doing a media tour to cover all of his bases after making a less-than-stellar dating decision (i.e. Stormfront, a rampant white supremacist) in The Boys season 2. There's a year-long gap between the seasons, during which not much has happened. Though Homelander states that he's been "getting in touch with himself." Whatever that means, it certainly can't be a good thing, as he's now determined to show people "the real" me.

Billy Butcher is working for the government now, under Hughie of all people, so that dynamic is sure to be fraught with tension. Queen Maeve has moved over to Billy's side and gifts him with a variant of Compound V, which will turn anyone into a Supe for 24 hours. Butcher is seen sporting laser eyes and is sure to wreak some bloody havoc now he's equally powerful. It's also discovered that there's a superweapon capable of destroying Supes. Hughie and Butcher want to get their hands on this as soon as possible, but it also leads them back to the original Supe, Soldier Boy. Now that Homelander has officially flown off the hinges, The Boys season 3 is set to take people on a gory journey, filled with betrayal, secret plans, and a new Supe group in the form of the Payback team. Crimson Countess, a source material mainstay, is seen disintegrating people with a wave of her hands. The show is not about to let up anytime soon.
