The Zone of Interest won best international film at the 2024 Oscars for its haunting story about a German S.S. officer and his wife working and living outside of Auschwitz.

The Academy Award-winning historical drama is expected to stream on Max, but a release date hasn’t been announced. The A24 film is currently available to buy or rent in 4K Ultra HD on Prime Video, Apple TV and other premium video-on-demand platforms.

Written and directed for the screen by British writer-director Jonathan Glazer (whose acceptance speech sparked fierce reactions on social media), The Zone of Interest follows German S.S. commandant Rudolf Höss (Christian Friedel) and his wife, Hedwig (Sandra Hüller), working and living at Auschwitz in Poland, as the pair try to build a home and garden for their growing family outside of the concentration camp. The film examines the “banality of evil” during wartime in a grisly and macabre tale of family life.

Where to Stream The Zone of Interest Online

Distributed by A24, The Zone of Interest is expected to stream on Max when its current theatrical run is over. In December 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery signed a deal with A24 to bring the distributor’s theatrical releases — including Priscilla, Dream Scenario, Dicks: The Musical, The Iron Claw and others — to its streaming service in 2024. You’ll likely be able to stream The Zone of Interest on Max sometime this spring.

In the meantime, The Zone of Interest in 4K Ultra HD is available digitally to buy for $20 on Prime Video, Apple TV and other video-on-demand platforms. Tickets to see the film in theaters are still available at Fandango.com and elsewhere.
