Why Cody Rhodes Is A Bigger Part Of Brodie Lee's Career Than You Might Think
Mia Smith Cody Rhodes will forever be the last man to wrestle Brodie Lee, but a match the two of them had in WWE makes that accolade even more meaningful.
The wrestling world was dealt a hefty body blow over the weekend when it was revealed that Jon Huber, better known as AEW's Brodie Lee, had passed away. Huber had been privately battling a lung condition, as was revealed by his wife Amanda. Fans had been wondering why Huber disappeared from TV rather suddenly. It would appear that this is the reason why.
Huber signed with AEW earlier this year and debuted at the start of the pandemic. Despite only being with the company for a short time, it has become clear over the past 48 hours that he made a lot of friends and touched a lot of lives. He also won the TNT Title in that time. In fact, the final match of his career was when he lost the championship to Cody Rhodes.

Rhodes will forever have the honor of having wrestled Huber's last match, something that will certainly not be lost on the AEW EVP. However, if you go back more than seven years, you can find evidence as to why Rhodes pinning Huber in his last ever wrestling match means even more.
In 2013, Rhodes dealt Huber his first-ever pinfall loss on TV. It was in a tag match on SmackDown. Rhodes and Goldust versus Erick Rowan and Huber, who was Luke Harper at the time. Rowan and Harper had been dominating in WWE since they debuted on the main roster. Not only did the first loss come at the hands of the Rhodes brothers, but Cody was the one to get the pin, and it was on Huber.
Both men's careers would take various twists and turns from that point up until 2020. It seems almost poetic that the two of them both wound up in AEW seven years later. Not just in the same company, and not only for Rhodes to wrestle Huber's last ever match. The battle for the TNT Title was the last rivalry of Huber's career and it was a great one. Rest in peace Jon. The mark you have left on the wrestling business will never be forgotten.
