One of the most popular wrestling figures of all time, John Cena is currently enjoying massive fame in Hollywood. A part of numerous top-notch projects and several upcoming big projects, even one with Jackie Chan, Cena began his Hollywood career long ago.

Back in 2004, the Hollywood actor would start his film career with a main role in the action-thriller film, Marine. Although the film failed to garner a critical response, it surely set up the roots for Cena’s eventual Hollywood career. However, prior to his shooting commitments, Cena had to be written off the television. And the WWE did it in a horrible stabbing incident.

WWE Veteran Bruce Prichard opens up on the potential attacker of John Cena before his hiatus in 2004

Wrestling fans are familiar with Vince McMahon’s penchant for his over-top portrayal of storylines, and plots. And similarly in 2004, before Cena went on a hiatus for shooting Marine, he was stabbed in kayfabe. The plot required Cena to be stabbed by Carlito’s bodyguard and then go on a hiatus to recover.

However, while they planned the attacker as Indie wrestler Aaron aka Jesus, earlier plans also suggested another name. WWE veteran Bruce Prichard revealed on his podcast revealed a piece of shocking news. New Jack from ECW was set to be the person pitched by Vince McMahon as the stabber.

He said, “There were definitely talks of New Jack. I don’t think anybody wanted to touch him because of his reputation and unpredictability. But yes, he may have been during this time, he was actually discussed.”  The fans saw the feud take a dark turn, as stabbing and violence got involved.

Although, as per plans Jesus became the one to stab Cena in a high-voltage storyline to send him on a hiatus, Prichard revealed that New Jack from ECW who was known for his volatile and unpredictable nature was the first choice for the role.

However, the stabbing incident became a disgusting way of introducing the fans to Jesus, and Prichard also opened up on why he thought so.

Why did Prichard think it was a “horrible” way to introduce Jesus in WWE against Cena?

In 2004, John Cena was one the best upcoming hottest prospect in the company. While Cena had to shoot Marine, he would go on a break. But before that, he would be stabbed by Carlito’s bodyguard Jesus. However, Prichard feels although WWE went with this to introduce the young talent, there could have been other ways.

He said in the same podcast, “It kind of looked like, yeah its disgusting. I know we had to get rid of John, and I think there are other ways.” WWE would then introduce Jesus and later have a feud with John Cena before being released in 2005.
